The Equipment that will be available to the players at the beginning of the game is very limited. It may be hard for players to look at the options they have initially and imagine how they can create a fun mechanical niche to play in when there are so few choices.

Thankfully, that’s just the starting point.

Characters will be able to unlock new Equipment by copying the Equipment they find on missions, be given Equipment designs as rewards by thankful aliens, and reverse engineer the tech of their enemies.

Perhaps most excitingly, players will be able to invent their very own Equipment from scratch.

Inventions can be used at the event they were built at, as soon as they’re fully constructed. If they fit within the mechanical balance of the game’s overall system, they’ll get their own Equipment Sheet and become permanent additions to the game. The inventors and anyone else will be able to spend CEUs, train, and earn permanent Clearance on Invented Equipment like normal.

To invent something, you’ll follow these steps:

1: Verbally pitch the idea to the Staff member in charge of inventions. You only need verbal approval of the rough idea at this stage, and the Staff member will try to workshop any major problems before you get started.

2: Assemble a team of at least 5 people, and work through the Invention Proposal paperwork. You’ll need to pick who is going to present which parts of your proposal at this stage, and nobody can present in more than one segment.

3: Present your full invention proposal to the staff. The presenters of each segment will need to collaborate on how the Invention will work and be executed at every stage. You will likely have some requirements, restrictions, or changes made to your invention in order to make the game balanced, fair, and fun.

4: After full approval from the staff on your proposal, you may then go to the Crafting Zone to physically construct your invention. Always follow the rules of the Crafting Zone and the instructions of Staff working there!

5: Present your completed invention to the staff for final checks. If approved, your invention is ready to use immediately!
