Bio Ability: Augment Stability
You have +2 Bio Stability when making Bio Augmentations.
One hundred and twenty three years and six generations have passed since Splicing was introduced to the people of Kaang. Their civilization stands at the brink of collapse.
Traditional genetic modification is slow, difficult, and dangerous. Splicing changed everything. Instead of replacing individual genes, Splicing seamlessly blends the physiology of a patient with another organism, dynamically modifying their entire body to support the added features. It could be done for anyone, at any time, with no major health concerns.
What drove its massive surge in popularity was also its most revolutionary feature: it was completely reversible.
The people of Kaang initially Spliced for health, work, and sport, though Splicing for aesthetic purposes eventually took root. What began as a bioindustrial revolution transformed into a fringe fashion trend in the working class and worked its way into every strata of society.
Blending your appearance with plants, fungi, and animals became as cheap and easy as getting a tattoo. Within two generations, almost everyone was Spliced.
It was only in the third and fourth generations that the flaw in Splicing was revealed: descendants were born with Splices that had been “reversed” several generations ago.
It is still unknown if the creators of Splicing knew that it was never possible to completely remove a Splice, only to recess its expression.
Children are born with so many Splices that they aren't recognizable as Kaangasi. To add to the horror, the brains of the most altered children were changed as well, causing strange and volatile behavior.
An advanced species, well on its way to interplanetary travel, buckled under the crisis. War, revolution, and strange cults boiled into the streets, led by the desperate and deranged. Some nations have already collapsed into chaos. Others cling to civilization by any means necessary.
Most Splicers are just doing their best to live a normal life in what remains of the modern world. There is significant effort put towards finding a way to truly reverse Splicing and end the infertility crisis. Others embrace their bodies and seek other solutions. Refugees, soldiers, and nomads drift between the cities, working and fighting to survive. Others have joined one of several militant primitivism groups, attempting to return to a pre-agricultural lifestyle. These movements mostly failed, and transitioned into terrorism and banditry.
Somewhere in the ashes of bombed out cities, new communities have formed and are establishing entirely new societies altogether.
No matter how the story of this world ends, the species that once ruled Kaang are gone. Only the Splicers remain.
Quick Start Questions
Where did you live?
Cuvier City, a large metropolitan area, where the last semblances of normal life are threatened by militant groups, doomsday cults, and people too spliced to maintain their sanity. While the mad vie for power on the streets, everyday people go about their jobs and lives doing their best to ignore it.
White Forest, the closest heavily wooded area near Cuvier City, it has become the gathering place for recruits of primalist groups of all kinds. Small hamlets have risen up and collapsed as the inhabitants have moved on or died for any number of reasons.
Gotspiel, an old-world metropolis, is the center of a populist militia turned invading army. The battle-maddened Splicers attack in all directions, with resistance fighters springing up to oppose them in equal force. Few who live in the shelled out remains of the city have any choice but to fight.
Mare Cuido, an independent group of the wealthy attempted to form their own nation at sea, away from regulation and the chaos of the changing world. Almost immediately it fell into chaos, depravity, and cannibalism. It wasn’t long for pirates, refugees and others to take over the half-sunk floating city.
