AR00001 Melee Weapon
Unlimited Use
Description
The end of this polearm is covered in hundreds of polarized nano-filaments that cling to the surface of whatever it strikes. The clinging effect is not activated unless the polearm hits the target with sufficient force (to prevent accidental grabbing).
Mechanics
Melee Grapple (Strength 3). You must remain Braced (both feet firmly set on the ground in a wide stance) for the entire length of the Grapple. You must keep the Cathpole in contact with the target for the entire length of the Grapple. If the attacker breaks physical contact with the target or takes a step, the Grapple is broken.
If the Grapple is broken, declare, “GRAPPLE BROKEN!”
Prop
A polearm weapon between 48 inches and 84 inches. The tip should not have a U shape like a traditional catchpole for safety.
Safety
Follow ALL Weapon Safety Training guidelines.
Do not push the target too firmly while holding the polearm against them. If you need to direct the target, do so verbally, and remind them that they are mechanically required to comply with your movements.
Do not hold the Grapple against the target’s leg. If you tag the target on the leg, slide the grapple up onto their torso (but not their arm, because an arm would cause that arm to be Bound, and you didn’t hit them in the arm).
Errata
The target cannot “juke” or push the weapon away to break contact with the Grapple.
Test
How should you direct a target that is not following gentle pressure while Grappled?
What should you declare when your Grapple is broken?
Can the target of a Grapple simply push your weapon away to break the Grapple?
Demonstrate the use of the Cathpole.
