Description

A one-handed Shield of any size.

Mechanics

A Basic Shield is exclusively used to deflect attacks from Melee and Thrown Weapons. Ranged Weapon attacks still count when they strike a Basic Shield.

Shields do not need to be held in order to block Melee and Thrown Weapon attacks, and can be worn slung across the back as passive defense. You must still take any Ranged Attacks that tag a worn shield.

Prop 

Must meet the weapon safety standards listed in the Rulebook.

Shields can be any size or shape so long as it is no more than 30 inches wide or 70 inches tall.

Safety

Never strike anyone with a shield. If a piece of Equipment describes a “shield bash” or something similar, gesture the shield in the target’s direction from a safe distance.

Shields should never be thrown to block or deflect an attack.

Errata

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW IF YOUR SHIELD HAS BEEN HIT WITH A DART. If you come with a giant shield and you can’t tell if you’ve been hit or not, we’ll make you stop using it.
