Description

The Infirmary is a hub of advanced medical devices, always stocked with high quality medications and supplies.

Prop

The Infirmary will fill an entire room, and at a minimum contain a bed, a table, a chair, and all of the props and makeup needed to do treatment.

Mechanics

The Infirmary can be used to remove Effects, including Critical Effects.

The treatment for each Effect is different, and requires the use of different props and roleplay. Which treatment is used on each Effect is listed below.

There is no time requirement to treatment, but the standards of each treatment must be completed thoroughly and with care. GMs may dictate that the treatment was unsuccessful at any time if they see the standards were not completed to their satisfaction.

Each of the tools required to do treatments will be labeled. Below is a description of the various tools used during treatment.

  • Surgical Curtain: A simple curtain that prevents the patient from seeing their arm from the elbow down. Almost all treatments must be done behind this curtain. (If the player is not comfortable with this, you may skip it. Don't skip it out of laziness or to save time.)

  • Hypospray: A handheld device that painlessly injects medicines without breaking the skin. Many different medicines can be applied as a Hypospray.

    • Analgesic

    • RadiaGuard

  • Disinfectant: A spray bottle with water in it. Prevents infection when sprayed over an area that is about to be worked on.

  • Topical Medications: Costume makeups of different colors that are applied with a Blotter or Circulatory Tracer. Many different medicines can be applied as Topical Medications.

    • Derma-Gen: Red. Regenerates skin.

  • Blotter: A spongy material used to dab Topical Medications onto the skin.

  • Circulatory Tracer: A brush used to apply Topical Medications treatments to arteries, veins, and lymph nodes.

  • Bone Setter: Plastic board that makes a loud cracking sound when pushed down on.

  • Debridement Scrubber: A rough textured tool that can remove dead tissue from healthy tissue.

  • Nano Scalpel: A small, dull scalpel used to safely and cleanly cut. Too brittle to be used effectively as a weapon.

  • Neuro Stimulator: A handheld light that displays colors which directly interact with the nervous system.

  • Regenerator Bandage: A bandage with medicines and nutrients that allows tissue to very rapidly regrow.

  • Tissue Stitcher: A tool with a dull point on the end, used to knit tissue back together.

  • Transfuser Tubing: A clear plastic tube that is used to transfer blood from one patient to another. It automatically modifies blood type to match the recipient.

Treatments:

Bleed

  • Apply an Analgesic Hypospray to the affected area.

  • Place the patient's arm behind the Surgical Curtain.

  • Apply Disinfectant on the inner forearm, then wipe down with a towel.

  • Lightly tap the Tissue Stitcher in a zig-zag pattern down the inside of the patient's arm from the inside of the elbow to the wrist, as if sewing up a large gash.

  • Lightly wrap a Regenerative Bandage around the forearm. The patient must wear the bandage for at least 10 minutes, then return the bandage to the Infirmary.

Burn

  • Apply an Analgesic Hypospray to the affected area.

  • Place the patient's arm behind the Surgical Curtain.

  • Apply Disinfectant on the inner forearm, then wipe down with a towel.

  • Gently rub the Debridement Scrubber over the forearm.

  • Use the Blotter to apply Derma-Gen Topical Medication over a 3 inch square. Allow the medication to dry.

  • After 30 minutes, or at the patient's next convenience, use the remover to wipe away the Derma-Gen Topical Medication. (There is no penalty for leaving it on longer.)

Disoriented

  • With the patient in a seated position, hold the Neuro Simulator about 3 inches above their head. Run it back and forth over their head, from brow to nape, three times.

  • Have patient touch their left have to their right shoulder.

  • With the patient in a seated position, hold the Neuro Stimulator about 3 inches above their head. Run it back and forth over their head, from brow to nape, three times.

  • Have the patient touch their right hand to their left shoulder.

  • With the patient in a seated position, hold the Neuro Simulator about 3 inches above their head. Run it back and forth across their head, from left ear to right ear, three times.

  • Tell the patient to repeat the word you say.

  • Stand behind the patient on their right side and say any five letter word. They should repeat it.

Exhausted

  • Give the patient a coffee, tea, or other beverage of their choosing.

  • While they are drinking their beverage, give them a Stimulant Hypospray.

Mangle

  • Apply an Analgesic Hypospray to the affected area.

  • Place the patient's arm behind the Surgical Curtain.

  • Apply Disinfectant on the inner forearm, then wipe down with a towel.

  • Place the patient's forearm on the Bone Setter. Place both of your hands on either side of the patient's forearm (not ON) and sharply press down firmly until the board breaks and makes a loud sound.

Numb

  • Apply an Analgesic Hypospray to the affected area.

  • Place the patient's arm behind the Surgical Curtain.

  • Apply Disinfectant on the palm, then wipe down with a towel.

  • Slowly glide the Nano Scalpel from the tip of the middle finger all the way up the patient's hand, wrist, and forearm, stopping on the inside of the elbow.

  • Repeat the gliding for all 5 fingers.

  • Gently tap the Tissue Stitcher on the tip of the patient's index finger, then on the center of the palm, then the wrist, then up the arm to the inside of the elbow.

  • Repeat the tapping for all 5 fingers.

Silence

  • Apply a Vocalex Hypospray to both of the patient's shoulders.

  •  Ask the patient to repeat the following sentences:

    • The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

    • Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow.

    • Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.

  • Apply Disinfectant on the inner forearm, then wipe down with a towel.

  • Use Blotter to apply RadiaCleanse in a 3 inch square. Allow the medication to dry.

  • Find a willing donor and use a Transfuser Tube. (The donor is Exhausted and loses 1 HP for the next half hour after transfusing.)

Safety

Never touch a patient without explicit verbal permission. Always describe what you are doing and always respect another player’s choice to change their mind about any form of contact.

Ideally treatments are done directly on the skin, but if the patient would prefer you to do them over the clothes, do that instead. Do not stain their clothes with makeup if they opt out of skin contact.

Do not touch anyone above the elbow during treatment.

Never apply more than gentle force when doing any of the treatments. The sensation is meant to be strange, not hurt.

Always let the patient know that you will be using makeup on them before you do so, and let them check the makeup for allergens before use.
